They used only processed acoustic instruments (harmonium, piano, strings, etc.), processing was based on turning these track a waaay down.
Of course, brilliant Yamaha VSS-30, distortions. Old tape recorders itp.Posted 3 months ago # -
I'm wondering more about how the sounds were manipulated. For instance that piano in Stokkseyri is fucked with. It's reversed and layered, it's gotta be.
I want to rip the record apart piece by piece.

I also want to know who is responsible percentage wise in the mix, because if it is Alex then he's fuckin brilliant but I've been saying that for years now though.

Reversed piano in stokkseyri? No, there isn't reversed piano.

As you can see jónsi mainly mixed that albumPosted 3 months ago # -
yes there is.
As the track progresses in fact the whole fuckin thing sounds layers reversed.and um what? Are you referring to the photo's? You can't tell shit from that.

Yes, i know. Because alex was taking photos, so jónsi have to sit, and he pretend that he know how it works ;-D. (of course, i'm just kidding). Surely they both were mixing track
About that piano, look at the attack of piano sound. It can't be reversed piano

I don't hear anything that is reversed. I hear piano, organ (both pump and electric), a choral section and strings. Maybe a xylophone or bell type instrument as well. There is a little bit of some digital stutter and minor percussive sounds added in that I can hear too.

Nook - have you checked out the posts on gearslutz? Alex himself gives some great info about the recording processes behind things...

Stokkseyri piano is fucked with. Maybe reversed in the wrong word but if any of you play the piano try to play what you're hearing especially that bit where the notes collapse in on each other. I'm fairly close now to mimicing it but there's a couple places where my fingers will not co-operate.
I'm just playing a fun game though really guys, I played b4 with sodium during live Riceboy "what is that sound" and then I die all over my keyboard while he isolates the sound and then I identify it or he does. The Gear Slutz thing is equipment used more then creation of sound and it focuses on Go more then anything, thanks redlights.

Oh rights, like with the tubey-noismaker thing that you spin through the air, I think I remember that. That is a fun game!
